In recent years our village has expanded greatly, with the building of Bramley Green there are now some 8000 residents in Angmering. There appeared to us to be a need to welcome the new residents into the village and to bring the whole community together. Since the conception of the ACA a constitution has been written to set out our aims and keep our focus firmly on community activities. A project called ‘our place’ came into being to encourage expression and celebration of Angmering. An initial grant from the arts council for £5000 got the ball rolling. The kind support from the rural arts officer at West Sussex County Council has meant that we have been able to continue our work. The film shows in the village are now a regular feature in many residents diaries and are also viewed as a social event. The Showing of ‘The Queen’ in 2007 was a particular highlight and one of our busiest nights so far. Some of the younger members of our community took part in a film workshop to create a film called ‘Our Place’. It is a film to show elements of life in Angmering from a younger perspective. Their work went on to win joint second place at the EOTP film festival in 2007. Well done! Live performance is now a feature of village life and the Oxfordshire Touring Theatre Company have visited the village on several occasions now bringing entertainment to various venues in the village for all ages. The Big Draw Day was a chance for young and old to take part in a national event that encouraged people to simply draw. Artists of all capabilities came together to draw, proving that art does indeed bridge many gaps. Music has been brought to St Nicholas Gardens with an event that allowed people to picnic in the peaceful gardens whilst enjoying music by the acclaimed New Harmonie group. A night to remember for those who attended and an idea which could grow in the future. All this and more! On-going projects include a writer in residence and a writing group . To conclude, we hope to organise activities and events which will encourage the community to come together regardless of age, gender or religion with the arts being the catalyst. |
